Whether it is the Police, the FBI, the Parliament, or the Mounted Police that takes care of all the crime that happens in Canada, it affects us all. Over $11 billion was spent on policing, courts, legal aid, criminal prosecutions, and adult and youth corrections in 2000/01. The crime rate in Canada is slowly lowering. In 2002, Canada had its lowest crime rate in 25 years. This was 7,590 incidents per 100,000 people. Thankfully, better behaviour is occuring in Canada, but we are still reaching for the top.

When it comes down to it, there are no real reasons for crime that was found. An educated guess could go hand in hand with all the rest of the world issues such as, poverty, drug abuse, education, unemployment, etc. Crime rates are different depending on the part of Canada you are in. Drug abuse is most popular in British Columbia, for example. Historically, crime rates are higher on the coasts of Canada, but lately the rates have dramatically increased in Ontario and Quebec. Even though Canada had its lowest crime rate in 2002, Alberta had its highest since 1994.
Quebec held the lowest crime rate in 2002, whereas Saskatchewan held the highest. It had 13,300 incidents per 100,000 people.
